A Legacy Intranet Failing 10,000 Employees Globally

Tata Communications operates across India, USA, UK, and Singapore with over 10,000 employees. Their existing LEAP intranet was built on SharePoint classic — no mobile responsiveness, no unified navigation, and 12 departments managing their own disconnected sites with inconsistent branding and duplicate content.

Employees struggled to find the right HR policy, IT support contact, or department announcement. There was no single source of truth. Critical workflows like leave requests and IT tickets were handled via email chains, creating delays, missed approvals, and zero audit trail.

Leadership needed a modern, branded digital workplace that unified all departments under one navigational umbrella and eliminated the manual workflow overhead slowing down operations across time zones.

SharePoint Classic with no mobile support — employees on mobile had broken layouts and missing content

12 department sites built independently — inconsistent branding, navigation, and duplicated content across all of them

IT ticketing and HR leave requests handled via email — no tracking, no SLAs, no audit trail

No central announcement or news hub — employees across 4 countries received information from different sources

Complete Hub Site Architecture with 8 Custom SPFx Web Parts

Akshara Technologies delivered a complete ground-up redesign of the LEAP intranet on SharePoint Online. The foundation was a hub site architecture — a single authoritative home portal that all 12 department sub-portals connect to, inheriting navigation, branding, and permissions automatically.

The hub home page features a fully responsive layout tested across desktop, tablet, and mobile. Department portals inherit the shared navigation while maintaining their own content areas, events, and announcements.

Three Power Automate flows handle IT ticketing (auto-routing to the right team, SLA reminders, closure notifications), HR leave requests (multi-level approval with auto-calendar blocking), and management approvals — all integrated with Teams notifications.
